Description

If ever there was a self-made man it was Wilfred Stephenson. Born in 1892 in the humblest of circumstances, he understood the poor man's desire to be better educated and socially accepted. He had a utopian vision in which everyone, rich or poor, would be able to listen to great music performed by the best international musicians and singers.

Between 1921 and 1939 he promoted thousands of concerts of classical music in over 60 towns and cities in Britain, particularly the Midlands and the North and with his flair and astute business sense made himself a fortune. This autobiography, edited by his step-daughter and illustrated by photographs of some of the well-known artists with whom he collaborated, tells his remarkable story.
